Peaceful moments in the garden

I know it sounds corny, but I love our garden.  I find it the perfect hiding place on crazy days, it's my calm and quiet spot.  Tonight we spend time out in the garden picking lots and lots of tomatoes.  The moment was simply beautiful.

Here are some pictures from multiple garden getaways this summer.

My laundry feels cleaner when dried by sunflowers

I never knew I'd enjoy these lovely ladies and much as I do

Our bees had a hard summer, do to city pesticide spraying but it's always a good feeling to see them work so hard

I can't believe how big some of our sunflowers have grown.  And these aren't even the tallest ones this year.

If you play in the sprinklers on Sunday it's best not to get wet.

I came outside to see James capturing this beauty with his camera.

Grace Ligaya Turns 5

Grace has been looking forward to a harry potter party since last year.  I kept thinking she'd change her mind but she never wavered.  To be honest I was a bit nervous to do a harry potter party.  I wasn't sure how her friends (and friend's parents) would respond to the idea and I wasn't sure how to pull it off.

Thankfully a lot of parents where supportive of the idea and I had a few friends who recently did harry potter themed parties and they gave me some great ideas.

So this is how it went.

The Saturday before Grace's birthday. We made invitations.  (thank you pinterest)

We filled up helium balloons and took as many invitations to friends that we could.  The rest where invited Via Facebook.

the owls waiting at Grace's door ready to be delivered to friends

and we're off to go deliver some invitations.
Grace's birthday was on a Wednesday.  We celebrated as a family and held her birthday party a week later when her best friend could attend.

On Grace's birthday, James was supposed to work, but Everett got sick the night before and we where up all night taking turns taking care of him.  So James called in sick and helped watch Everett while I did our daily routine/plans.  Then I came home and watched Everett so Papa could take Grace out on a Daddy Daughter date.

They went to IHOP for dinner and then to the mall so Grace could get her ears pierced.  When Grace requested a Daddy Daughter date for her birthday I got all excited and said "Or Maybe I can get a babysitter for Everett and Gwenevere and I can come too!"  Grace then said she'd prefer just a daddy daughter date.  hehehhehe  I was a bit sad that I wouldn't be able to be there when Grace got her ear pierced but James took pictures for me. Thank you.

On their way home from their date Papa and Grace stopped by Fred Myers and bought a cake.  They came home and we sang happy birthday and ate cake.  It was a very lovely birthday.

On August 26th Grace finally got her Harry Potter party.

Grandma Sharolee came early and help with birthday party set up.  We love that she lives close enough to come visit often.  James built another stage and I finished the pinata.

After friends arrived we dressed the kids in wizard robes and placed the shorting hat on their heads to find out what house they belonged too.
Grace was very excited to be called into Gryffindor
Then the kids picked out wands and we had broom races.

after flying lessons we played a game with jelly beans called "Don't eat the boogie!"
Then we practiced some quidditch.  The kids took turns throwing water balloons through hanging hula hoops.

after Quidditch it was time for potions.  The kids made root beer floats.  (aka Butter beer)  but Grace insisted that it be root beer instead.

Once we where filled with root beer float sugar it was time to burn some energy.  We held a hogwarts ball and the kids danced to music for a few songs.

then it was time for birthday brownies and presents.

When all the presents were unwrapped,  it was time to use are magic and defeat the dementor.

"Expecto Patronum!"  was shouted with each swing of the bat.

The wizards won

At last the party was over.

Grace went to bed a very happy little 5 year old.

I think her birthday was a success
and she knows just how much we love having her in our family.

Taylor's birthday

Grace and Taylor share the same birthday.
This was the first year Taylor wanted a birthday party.
We went swimming, played on the trampoline
ate amazing food.  Jenny is a great cook
and opened presents.

The boys got Grace a birthday present too.

And Taylor shared his brownies with Grace.

My favorite part of the day was watching Taylor come up to Grace several times throughout the day and quietly wishing her a happy birthday.

Those Thomas boys sure know how to kind and loving.  I'm so glad they are friends with my girls.

birthday brownies and ice cream
We sang to Grace too

Grace got Gidget the  dog from the Life of Pets

When we contacted Jenny with a list of present ideas for Taylor she thought he'd enjoy the cash idea best.  I think she was right.
On our way home we had stop and watch the sunset.  It was breathtaking.
